Your Next Move: Overcoming Evil With Wisdom, Justice, and Love
What does it truly mean to keep an open heart in a world that so often takes advantage of kindness? In this study of Matthew 5:38-42, we explore the four pictures Jesus gives us as a framework for responding to injustice, pressure, and need. From the cheek to the coat, the mile to the ask, each image challenges us to recognize the one thing no one can take from us: our next move. We dig into the wisdom behind giving with an open hand while refusing to be naive, and we wrestle with the difference between a generous heart and one that has simply stopped paying attention. The insight here is not that we give everything to everyone who asks, but that we never close our hearts off entirely. Wisdom listens, thinks, and prays before it acts. As we reflect on these four pictures together, we are invited to ask ourselves which of these areas is calling us to grow this week, and what it would look like to bring both an open heart and a discerning spirit into our everyday relationships.
